HESS NAMED BOISE STATE RADIO GENERAL MANAGER

John Hess, a 22-year veteran of the television and radio broadcast industry, has been named the new general manager of Boise State Radio.

Hess, director of broadcast services at the University of Northern Iowa, was named head of Boise State Universitys various public radio affiliates following a national search.

Hess will join Boise State Radio in June. He will be responsible for the overall management of Boise States stations KBSU-FM, which broadcasts classical music and the arts; NPR News 91, an affiliate of National Public Radio; KBSW, which delivers news and cultural programming in the Magic Valley; and Idahos Jazz Station, which features jazz, Spanish language and student programming. His duties will also include the administration of programming, fund development, technology and external relations.

I am confident that Johns leadership will strengthen KBSU programming and establish Boise State Radio as Idahos premier NPR station, said Boise State President Bob Kustra. His experience in public radio in a university system will prove especially valuable here on campus, and I look forward to helping him unite the efforts of the station with the long-range strategic plan of the university and the needs of the community and state.

Before assuming his current position at Northern Iowa in 2002, Hess served as director of development for broadcast services at the Cedar Falls school from 2000 to 2002. From 1983 through 2000 he served in various production, programming and administrative positions in the television industry in Iowa and Minnesota.

He earned a bachelor of arts degree in broadcasting and film studies from the University of Iowa in 1983.

Hess replaces Jim Paluzzi, who left Boise State Radio last June to become vice president of applied technology at Colorado Public Radio. Steve Johnston, Boise State Radios director of engineering and operations, has served as interim general manager since Paluzzis departure.
