and representatives. All in all it was considered a good turnout. Some people
received responses to their letters.

ACE will have a booth at the fair. Gay has updated the Self-Rescue
Resource guide and will have copies available. A list of the type of issues
that ACE deals with will be typed up and handed out for general information.
COMMITTEE REPORTS
ACE Luncheon
The annual ACE Luncheon is set for Tuesday, April 3. Jan Mills will be the
speaker. Main course selections are still being decided. The cost is $5.00 for
classified staff, $10.00 for non-classified staff.
Bookstore Advisory
Committee
Leah Barrett has submitted a proposal for a $10.00 increase per
student per semester for the SUB operations following the remodel, which is a
$30 million dollar project. Bids for the remodel are due in April,
groundbreaking will be in May and construction is scheduled to start in June.
This remodel includes a 66,000 square foot expansion and will take approximately
two years to complete. The entire SUB is planned to be closed from June 28 to
July 8 time frame. The Jordan Ballroom will be off-line for three to four
months. The Game Center is scheduled to be closed spring of 2008. University
Drive from Lincoln to Manitou may be closed to vehicle traffic. This is still
under discussion.
The Bookstore has approximately $1,250,000 to return to the University, and most
will go toward scholarships. Sales for the Bookstore in January exceeded the
projected budget by $500,000 with clothing being $342,000 of that total.
Clothing sales in December came to approximately $750,000. The DVD of the
Fiesta Bowl received 912 pre-sale orders.
The Bookstore has initiated a
proposal to assist students statewide with the cost of public higher education
books by waiving the state sales tax. Boise State is taking this to the Idaho
legislature for consideration. This has been approved in several other states.
Women’s Center Advisory
Board
The Vagina Monologues is scheduled for February 23-25. Approval was requested
and given for protests. A typed threat was received so there will be increased
security.
Women’s History Month is March
and there will be many interesting and worthwhile events scheduled.
Sexual Assault Awareness Month
is April and will include “Take Back the Night” lecture and film, date to be
announced. Risk Reduction Seminars will be held April 14.
A new Administrative Assistant
has been hired and there are three finalists for the Violence Awareness and
Response Coordinator interview.
Goodwill Fund Committee
The Goodwill Fund has $11,500 of funds. Aramark is still paying half of the
cost of meals which is greatly appreciated. Donations to the Goodwill Fund can
be done through payroll deduction or made directly to a committee member.
Advertising of the Goodwill Fund will be done through occasional releases in the
HR Review and the UPDATE.
Human Resource Advisory
Committee
General discussions included the holiday schedule, the CEC and the devolvement
of the Division of Human Resources and the Department of Administration. The
removal of the sick leave cap and the inclusion of a fee waiver for dependent
children are both in the preliminary stage of talks. Electronic filing of time
sheets will begin this August or September. The electronic submission of
Employee Action Forms will begin by December.
Parking Committee
There will be 200+ parking spaces lost in the stadium parking lot due to
construction.
Student Recreation Board
of Governors
A fee increase was requested for the swimming pool. Because students who may
pay the fee increase cost will have graduated by the time the pool is ready,
it has been suggested that those graduates receive a temporary reduction
fee to use the pool once it has been completed.
Executive Budget
Just under a 10% increase for student fees was sent to the president for the
recommendation on February 20. The State Board of Education is looking closer
to 5%.
Cultural Board
A ‘Hero’ award has been developed. Eligible are students, faculty, staff and
alumni. The award is given on merit in volunteer work, diversity awareness,
school performance and involvement in the University and the community at large.
The Migrant Council made a
presentation at the Cultural Board meeting which dealt with trying to find
solutions and ideas on immigration issues.
Distinguished Lecture
Series
Hans Blix, Weapons of Mass Destruction Commission Chairman and former Chief U.N.
Inspector in Iraq, will be giving a lecture at Boise State on Monday, March 12,
7 pm, at the Morrison Center. The lecture is free to the public.
Discussion on the next speaker
centered on someone in the healthcare field. This discussion will continue at
another meeting.
