Student Union Gibson Room
April 17, 2007, 2 pm

 MEETING MINUTES

Present: Gay Barzee, Carol Bugni, Linda Burnett, Carol Carroll, Shelly Doty, Jaque Johnson, Brenda Ross, Kenny Wiscombe

Guest Speaker: Blaine Eckles, Interim Director/Student Rights & Responsibilities, Disability Services

Blaine presented the Boise State University “Statement of Shared Values” document which outlines the values that Boise State wants to promote for students, faculty and staff in their campus community experience.  This document is not part of the Student Code of Conduct.  It is a separate document for all associated with the University.  Blaine is presenting this document across campus to various groups and colleges and is asking for a vote of support from the groups.

A draft copy of this document is included with the minutes.  Please email Gay Barzee, GBarzee@boisestate.edu  if you have comments or concerns regarding the document.

Benefits Fair, May 8

A schedule for volunteers for the Benefits Fair ACE Booth was distributed.  The Self-Resource Guide will be provided as a handout, along with a brochure describing the Association of Classified Employees.  Both of these documents can be requested from any of the ACE Senate.

ACE Elections

Election ballots went out today.  The ballots need to be received by April 30, 2007, to Keith Hasselquist, Internal Auditor, Mailstop 1240, in order to be counted.

ACE Classified Employee of the Year Employee Recognition Criteria

Concern was raised as to how the qualifications and criteria were set up and evaluated.  It was felt that the forms and criteria may need updating.  A subcommittee was developed to discuss some revisions for next year in forms, qualifications, criteria and selection.  If you have comments on this recognition, please send them to Carol Carroll, CCARROL2@boisestate.edu .

Human Resources Classified Employee Recognition Lunch

The Classified Employee Recognition Luncheon has been rescheduled for October 30, 2007 to accommodate the Student Union Building Renovation.  More information will be forthcoming in the fall.

COMMITTEE REPORTS

Homecoming Committee
Homecoming will be September 15th and the theme will be “Bronco Nation Roundup”.

Human Resources Advisory Board
HR discussed salary increases and the sick leave cap.  Notice of salary increases will go out by May 4th.  The Governor vetoed the Sick Leave Cap bill, so accumulation of sick leave hours that can be used at retirement is still 1200 hours.

Presidents Cabinet
The policy on pets on campus was discussed, the final reading presented.  No pets will be allowed in campus buildings with the exception of animals for special needs.  Pets outside must be under the direct control of the owner at all times.  Those who have brought their pets on a continual basis to campus in the past will be grandfathered in to continue until leaving the University.  Student Housing will develop their own policy on pets in their apartments.

The Smoke Free Campus policy was discussed.  There will be increased signage around entrances and exits.  The policy will be phased in.  There will be no “smoking huts” built and designated smoking areas are still in the planning stage.
