Emeriti
Applications
Two emeriti applications were reviewed and passed unanimously.
Committee
Assignments
Vacant committee assignments were filled. See the Committees webpage from the ACE homepage.
All committees are asked to submit verbal or written reports from their respective meetings to the ACE Senate. Those on committees that are not ACE Senate members will be contacted concerning updates.
Committee Reports
Goodwill Fund Committee
TIAACREF will meet in September to
discuss funding requests from various groups.
ACE should know by the end of the month if they will donate toward the
Goodwill Fund.
There were 50 requests this month
for assistance. Fund raising ideas were
discussed as the fund itself is not self-supporting.
Campus Climate Committee
There will be a meeting in October
to go over the final results of the survey and to further the discussion.
Affirmative Action
Statistics were distributed at the
meeting analyzing female and minority numbers on campus by job category. For females the number of jobs hired into
lessened. No female applicants for some
jobs have skewed the numbers. For
minorities the number of jobs hired into has increased slightly with the 2005
and 2006 statistics.
Members and all BSU staff are
urged to view the website: http://hrs.boisestate.edu/eeoaa/
for materials concerning
Affirmative Action.
Brief points of the meeting
include:
Reverse
discrimination on campus is becoming an issue.
The approach to complaints has become less formal to allow quicker
processing to take care of the issues sooner.
A bias
test is available at the EEOAA website listed above. Everyone is urged to take the test.
The
climate survey may include comments on affirmative action when complete. Those comments will be reviewed.
Classes
protected by law include: age, religion, gender, ethnicity, national origin,
disability, veteran status. Sexual
orientation is protected under BSU policy.
The sick
leave fund has been decommissioned. It
is now only available on a case by case basis for individuals, no longer put
into a lump sum. Qualifications go along
with donating leave and can be found on the HR website.
It is
recommended not to Google potential employees as this can become a future
affirmative action issue and could be viewed as illegal hiring practices. Contact Affirmative Action with any questions
or concerns.
Departments
are encouraged to do a ‘gap’ analysis of their departments when getting ready
to hire.
Affirmative
Action Committee meets next on October 16, 2006, at 3:00 pm.
Paint the Town
There has been an increasing lower
turnout each year. ACE will reconsider
this project at a later date. One possibility
may be to replace Paint the Town with another community service project that
will draw more participants.
Rake Up
Dates for Rake Up Boise will be
ascertained to see if there is enough time to pursue this service project this
year.
Academic Calendar Committee
The draft of the 2007-08 calendar
includes December 21, 2007 set for fall graduation and grades due December 31,
2007. This will go for approval in
September.
Habitat for Humanity
Habitat for Humanity is passing
out flyers for low-income families in need of adequate housing to come to one
of two meetings scheduled in
Meeting
1: Thursday, September 21, 2006, 7 pm
Meeting
2: Saturday, September 23, 2006, 10 am
Both
meetings will be held at the All Saints Episcopal Church located at 704 S.
Latah.
Several documents are needed so
check their website for specifications.
Division of Human Resource Letters
A letter was sent to Carolyn
Terteling-Payne, Idaho Division of Human Resources, from ACE, in response to
the new compensation schedule. Issues
commented on included salary compression and lack of reward for career state
employees that affect morale and retention.
Two specific questions were asked.
Will the compensation schedule change annually as the market values
increase, further impacting salary compensation? Will all job descriptions in the new pay
grades be reviewed for consistency within each classification?
A letter was promptly received
from Ms. Terteling-Payne acknowledging the letter from ACE. It was agreed that compression is a concern,
the schedule being changed annually will be determined by funding and that the
State Legislature is responsible for the funding issue. We were assured that job classifications and
pay grades will continue to be reviewed on a regular basis.
The Division of Human Resources
and the Division of Financial Management have contracted with the Hay Group for
two studies, one of which will be devoted entirely to review some job
classifications and pay grades.
Both letters can be viewed from
the ACE homepage. See the links on the
right hand side of the page.
Legislator Contact
Suggestions were made on how to
get classified employees more involved with the legislative sessions and
contacting their legislators for issues that affect all classified staff. Workshops and letter signing campaigns were
discussed. The Legislature convenes in
January/February and ACE will discuss options at a future meeting before then.
ACE Annual Luncheon and General Meeting
The cost of the luncheon was
brought up for discussion. As the cost
of Dining Services rises, the amount ACE covers for the luncheon increases,
greatly impacting the budget. It was
decided to raise the cost slightly and have two category prices: Classified
Staff $5.00, Non-Classified Staff $10.00.
ACE Scrapbook
It was decided to begin an ACE
scrapbook. A tangible and possibly
online scrapbook will be created. Anyone
having pictures or other ACE memorabilia that they would like included in the
scrapbook, please contact Jaque Johnson at x64321 or Shelly Doty at x63559.
Meeting adjourned at 3:13 pm
