Ah Fong - Student Union

 

 

PRESENT:  Cindy Bancroft-Stigell, Gaynel Barzee, Theresa Bow, Carol Bugni, Carol Carroll, Connie Charlton, Cathy Hampton, Brenda Ross, Gary Tucker, Regal Walker. 

 

WELCOME AND INTRODUCTIONS:

Acting President Hampton called the meeting to order at 2:05 p.m.  Hampton reintroduced Jane Buser, Director of Human Resource Services, who discussed legislative issues pertaining to classified employee compensation for FY07.  

·        Classified employees will receive at least a 3% increase if performance evaluation shows meets standards. 

·        Classified employees making less than $12 per hour will receive an additional .25% increase (or a maximum increase of $750).  Increase will be effective on the February 24th paycheck.

  • Professors/Senior Instructors will also receive an additional .25% increase to help address equity issues.
  • Legislature approved coverage of increased health insurance costs for both employees and employers.
  • Possible changes in the 90 day waiting period for medical insurance and grievance policy changes will also be discussed by the legislature.

 

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

 

  • Presidents Cabinet – reported by Connie Charlton:
    • Desktop/Laptop computer policy was passed unanimously – included language change only.
    • Software Patch Management – will be reviewed by all technology groups on campus for input and be brought back to the future cabinet meeting.
    • Smoking zones will be implemented in stages – eventually move to a non- smoking campus.
    • Orientation Fee within the student fees was increased from $55 to $75.  Summer orientation fee remained the same - $25.
    • Boise State will be closed the week following Christmas, December 25-29.

 

  •  Naming Committee – reported by Connie Charlton: 
    • Committee has met once to approve renaming Bronco Lane to Caesar Chavez Drive

 

  • Cultural Center Advisory Board – reported by Gary: Changes have been recommended for improving future events.
    • Happy hour every Friday
    • African Night

 

  • ACE Luncheon – reported by Theresa Bow for Denise Ooley:  
    • Date is April 10th at 11:30-1:00 in the Jordan Ballroom
    • Andy Giacomazzi will be the keynote speaker. 
      • We will be meeting with Andy to develop topics of speak on
    • Invitations to President and Vice Presidents need to be extended.  Also to those supervisors of nominated candidates – these folks will have to pay for their own meals.

 

  • Affirmative Action – reported by Theresa Bow for Denise Ooley:  Amanda Horton and Holly Borden have been working to clean up and update the Anti-Harassment Policy.  We were given a copy to review.   

 

  • Women's Center – reported by Theresa Bow for Denise Ooley: 
    • Group met January 17. 
    • Major point of discussion was nominations for chair of the board.  A selection committee was formed and will review nominations and make a selection.
    • A question was asked on the fee for the Center, but after a vote it was tabled until next year. 
    • Some very good volunteer opportunities are coming up, i.e. Vagina Monologues and Women’s History Month events.

 

  • Executive Budget Committee – reported by Gay Barzee:
    • 8-9% increase in student fees to help offset increased cost of operations.
    • Proposed building activity
      • Academic Building
      • Student Union Remodel

§         Parking Structure on Beacon/Lincoln

OTHER:

 

·        All Senate Meeting:  Senate members from the Faculty, Professional and Classified staff have agreed to meet on March 1, 2006.

 

·        BSU Benefits Fair:  Senate agreed to participate.  Cathy will send in necessary forms.

 

ADJOURNMENT:    Acting President Hampton adjourned the meeting at 11:05 a.m.

ASSOCIATION OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES SENATE 2005-2006

 

The Association of Classified Employees (ACE) Senate consists of 15 members elected to represent University classified staff on various committees (including the President’s Cabinet), to head up special projects, and to keep classified staff informed on issues that affect us. The ACE Senate meets in the Student Union the third Thursday of each month from 10:45 - 11:45 a.m. during the academic year.  All classified staff are welcome to attend any of the monthly meetings -- just show up!
