- Dual
employment policy – first reading of a policy to deal
with dual career couples when hiring faculty.
- Alcohol
beverage policy is being expanded and is now going
through a permit process.
- Smoking
policy - all permanent buildings have a smoke-free
entrance. There is interest in
expanding this policy to include all entrances to
permanent buildings and there was some discussion related to whether BSU
should be a smoke free campus.
Additional research and discussions are needed.
- Hurricane
Katrina displaced individuals -
There are current y 3 students and 1 faculty on campus. Fund-raising for hurricane relief will
be done at the first football game September 21.
- Policy
on Naming Facilities - The first reading will occur at the
next President's Cabinet meeting.
Naming of the indoor training facility and band building will be on
the next State Board meeting agenda.
- Professional
Staff Employee Performance Evaluation - Human
Resource Services will now be the repository for professional files.
Potluck
with professional staff and faculty - This potluck will
be held after work in a family friendly place very soon.
Emeritus
Status - Two nominees were approved by the
Senate. The group discussed how we
approve people for emeritus status and decided to meet soon with
representatives from the Professional Association and the Faculty Senate
to talk about guidelines and criteria for this honor.
ISU President's Search:
ACE Senate was contacted by its counterparts at
Idaho
State
University to
determine whether or not
classified employees were
included in Boise
State's
presidential search -- they were not at Idaho
State or
University
of Idaho.
Committee Reports:
-
Cultural
Center
(Tucker): Its
mission statement changed. Also, it
will be holding Cultural Roundtable luncheon meetings.
- Bookstore
Advisory Committee (Ross): Has a nice profit margin from last
year. The Bookstore has encouraged
faculty to be concerned about the cost to students of textbooks -- there
are less expensive ways to go.
Clothing sales are projected to be lower than last year.
- Climate
Committee (Barzee):
The committee is working on getting surveys out this spring. Once surveys are done, Provost Sona
Andrews is willing to financially back any problem areas that need to be
resolved. This survey was initiated
from the top down and the Provost wants issues cleaned up, especially with
classified, faculty and students.
The climate at Boise
State
is one project she was hired to take on at the University.
- Strategic
Planning Committee for Metropolitan
Research
University
of Distinction (Hampton): There will be another survey coming
out. When you see the survey, don't
discard it. Also, there will be
more opportunities and meetings to get involved in.
- ACE
Luncheon (Bugni): The Association of Classified Employees
luncheon has been rescheduled for April 10, instead of May 9. Please note that change on your
calendar and plan to come!
Meeting Adjourned: Hampton
adjourned the meeting at 11:45
a.m.
Respectfully Submitted,
Ann
Winslow, Recording Secretary
