ASSOCIATION OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES

Business Bldg., Rm 117 - 10:00 a.m.

MINUTES – October 14, 2004 - FINAL

Present:  Valencia Garrett, Brenda Ross, Karen Toon, Bryan Chesbro, Julie Clarkson, Connie Charlton, Rita Nuxoll, Lisa Clements, Rex Hadley, Ken Wiscombe, Guen Johnson.  Guests:  Linda Rooper, Robert Gale.

ANNOUNCEMENTS:

-An e-mail from Amanda Brown, SEIU representative was read concerning the state of Idaho employees.

-TIAA CREF to sponsor Goodwill Project again with $2,500.

-Classified Luncheon will be on November 10, 2004.

GOODWILL PROJECT:

There is $3,129 in the Goodwill account right now. Discussion about adopting a family this year ensued. Getting more people to do payroll deductions into the Goodwill Project was discussed. More advertising is needed to get more participation. Charlton talked to the Faculty Senate about the project last year. Chesbro spoke to legislators about it. Poll to go out again soon on BSU employees that work one or more extra jobs to make ends meet.

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

-Foodservice Committee:  Johnson stated there will be a food court in the new Multipurpose  building to add options on the west end of campus. The C-store in the new apartments by the Health Center is open. Not very visible to the public from the street however.

-ACE Luncheon Committee:  Garrett stated the luncheon is slated for April 14, 2005 – a date that conflicts with our meeting. Options at this point are:  Lasagne, Chicken Piccata, or Meat Loaf. More details to come.

-Rake Up Boise Committee:  Hadley stated this will be Saturday, November 13, 2004. Lots of student groups are involved this year.

-Bookstore Advisory Committee:  Charlton stated the Bookstore Advisory Committee elected a president – Sandy Joff. The VP is usually a student. Financial information was reviewed; the SUB expansion is up in the air at this point.

-Cultural Center Advisory Board:  A letter is being drafted for the Arbiter about the Taco Bell Arena. Nuxoll and Clarkson attended a Taco Bell Arena information session given by Dr. Kustra. Biggest complaint is how the deal was made over the summer, with very little or no input from the BSU community. Part of the issue is Florida farm workers and equity. A local person owns 38 Taco Bell restaurants and is a big BSU supporter – he is planning to talk to Taco Bell headquarters about the farm worker issue. The contract is for fifteen years. A Pavilion Advisory Board previously existed – current status unknown. ACE should have a member on this board if it is ever reinstated.

PARKING APPEALS:

An additional Parking Appeals Committee member is needed. Rex Hadley volunteered.

CEC UPDATE:

Charlton, Clarkson and Nuxoll talked about the latest ACE suggestions for the BSU CEC document. These were presented at a president’s cabinet meeting.  Some meetings with the ACE membership will take place to discuss the proposed changes that affect reclassification, transfers and other issues.

ADJOURNMENT:

It was MSC by Johnson/Wiscombe to adjourn the meeting at 11:37.

Respectfully Submitted – Guen Johnson, ACE Recording Secretary
