WELCOME NEW SENATOR:

Charlton welcomed Denise Ooley from HR/Payroll as a new senator on the Ace Senate.

CEC FEEDBACK & PROGRESS:

The two meetings with ACE employees about the BSU Classified Employee Compensation policy were discussed. ACE VP Clarkson states, “ It is time for the Classified Compensation Policy to be updated.  There are some administrators on campus who feel there should be much more flexibility by departments in offering starting wages to new employees with suggestions ranging from 10-15% above the minimum without significant justification.  The concern of the ACE Senate is the inequity this will create with those currently employed.  The other area with the biggest suggested change is in the promotion policy which would determine the amount of pay increase someone would receive if they promoted from one position to another on campus.”

COMMITTEE REPORTS:

-Rake Up Boise:  Hadley stated that there are eleven houses for us to rake leaves, and they are all over Boise.

-Bookstore Advisory Committee:  Ross stated the Bookstore needs more space in the SUB. An expansion for the Bookstore and the whole SUB is being discussed. It would mean a $45 increase in fees to students. The dining hall would be expanded, the Women’s Center would be improved, and a patio area would be created between the SUB and the Recreation Center. More meeting rooms would be built. At this point about 90% of SUB usage is from BSU faculty and staff.

-Goodwill Subcommittee:  Chesbro stated the committee members have met a couple of times. He is donating a 3’ Christmas tree to display hand-made ornaments for sale in the SUB to raise money for the Goodwill Project. Chesbro is making ornaments with fishing flies inside, and Valerie Tucker is making ornaments with BSU colors. Payroll deduction forms are now in new employee packets. Monthly events have been discussed to help raise funds, like raffles, etc. Valerie Tucker offered to raffle a dinner for two plus a Gingerbread house to raise moneys. TIAA CREF raised their contribution by $500, making it $2,500 for the year. November 16, 2004 is the next meeting of the subcommittee. Chesbro said that classified staff are so generous here.  An ad should be run in HR and in the Update for the Goodwill Project.

-Health Fair:  Charlton to check on having an ACE presence at the Health Fair again. It was stated that the Social Work Department was working on a new resource book that would be useful.
