GOODWILL
PROJECT:
Charlton reported 38 people applied for two meals per week. One person was
denied; the remaining were awarded one meal per week. The amount will be put on the employees’ ID cards for use at any of BSU’s retail food
service locations. Concerns with the
dollar amount given as a gift to an employee were discussed. Continued fund raising will have to occur to
keep the project viable. ACE to ask TIAA CREF and Aramark to continue with
their support. It was suggested a donation basket be set up at the ACE
luncheon, donations should be tax deductible (Charlton to confirm this with the
Foundation) – keep receipt of donations.
GUEST:
Charlton
introduced Amanda Brown from SEIU, Jeff Olson’s replacement. Brown stated the
DHR rule changes passed by one vote in the House but failed in the Senate. She
urged everyone to continue contacting legislators and letting them know how you
feel on the issues. (Note…she will be in
the Student Union Building on Wednesday, March 3 from 9:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m.
to talk to interested employees.)
CEC
WRAP UP: Charlton
reported that she attended the actual proposal.
The Presidents of ACE, Professional Staff and the Faculty Senate met
with several legislators one-on-one to discuss legislative issues, i.e.,
raises, health benefits, pay increases, PERSI, etc. Letters thanking the CEC
committee were sent to each member on behalf of all employees of Boise State
University. This team approach seems to be very effective.
PRESIDENTS
CABINET:
Charlton reported that the holiday schedule had been voted on and passed. The summer schedule was tabled.
COMMITTEE
REPORTS:
- General Meeting and
Luncheon – Garrett reported that the committee has yet to meet. But the date is set for Thursday, April
8.
- Outstanding Classified
Employee – Rountree reported
that she and Carroll are working on the Outstanding Employee. A mass e-mail will be sent out with
nomination forms. Nuxoll will put the form on our web site. Supervisors to be asked to print off
copies for employees that don’t have access to computers (housing,
custodial, etc). Advertising will
be in the Update and HR Review.
Rountree will send letters to vendors requesting donations for
gifts for the Outstanding Employee Award recipient. If you have ideas of places to contact
for donations, please let her know at x1153.
- Distinguished Lecture
Series – Charlton reported that speakers are booked through 2005. E.O. Wilson is the speaker for April
2004.
- HRAC – (1) Rountree reported a summer schedule
proposition was sent to the President’s Cabinet recommending these summer
hours: May 17 through August 13 -- all offices open Monday through
Thursday 8-5 and Friday 8-12; (2)
Option 3 of the holiday schedule was sent to and passed by the President’s
Cabinet. Employees will have the Thursday and Friday before both Christmas
and New Years off; (3) Fee
waiver changes are needed but none
knows where to start, i.e., Section
A: The same $50 late fee may be applied after the posted deadline; Section
C: The employee may take a maximum of two courses per week with supervisor
approval. This would allow the
employee, with supervisor approval, to take classes during their lunch
hour. Section K: change the form to
read that Health Insurance is not an option using the fee waiver; (4)
Rountree said HR is looking into a pre-paid legal assistance-voluntary
benefit. They would like feedback
on the Met Life and Legal Inc. programs. Health Insurance remarketing was
discussed in the HRAC meeting. Rountree stated HR is also available to
attend our staff meetings.
- Cultural Center – Clements reported the
new center is upstairs in the SUB’s connector, and suggested that everyone
go up and visit. It has been
suggested that they name the center in honor of Trang
Doan. She stated the
International Food, Song and Dance Festival is scheduled for Saturday,
February 21.
- Food Service – Myers reported that
BSU is looking at opening food outlets earlier in the year when the
students are returning to campus.
Catering has a new manager with Bill reassigned to Dining
Services. Aramark wants to upgrade
and along with that prices will go up.
BSU wants to build a small store on the west side of campus with
food items (located at University and Brady.) Culinary Arts students are offering
breakfast at Tablerock (last cube on left). A suggestion box for menu input is now
available.
- Parking and
Transportation – Bow reported accommodating the basketball crowd is still being
discussed. Currently the
construction area is an issue. West
Campus will need security. In the
future west campus and Boise’s general permits will be
interchangeable. Canyon County
would remain the same. The
committee is working on updating their policy. A Parking Advisory Board is being created
and the question of what their role will be has come up. An actual appeal process will be created
to deal with parking ticket issues. There will be no increases in parking
fees this year. Kustra wants
students to pay the same that employees do.

Charlton handed out extra copies to everyone. These are what were printed and handed
