ASSOCIATION OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES

MINUTES – June 12, 2003

Guest:  Jeff Olson, Service Employees International Union (SEIU); and Dennis Sterling, BSU Training Officer

 

1.  WELCOME NEW MEMBERS

Three new ACE Executive Board members were elected for 2003-2004, and one (Mike Dome) was able to attend the meeting for introductions.

 

2.  DETERMINE MEETING TIMES

Tabled until August 2003 meeting.

 

3.  COMMITTEE ASSIGNMENTS

Tabled until August 2003 meeting.

 

4.  OTHER

·         Dennis Sterling, the new BSU Training Officer, asked for input on the training and development schedule for summer 2003 in order to fine-tune the offerings for fall 2003. In the discussion it was mentioned that Academic Technologies (SMITC) does have tapes of many past “Let’s Talk” sessions available for check out by employees who were unable to attend.

 

·         Jeff Olson, Service Employees International Union representative, stated a “Worker’s Oversight Committee” (WOC) was created so that state employees who find waste in their departments/areas have a safe vehicle for reporting problems, thus saving the state money and possibly receiving a bonus. (If financial savings are realized by the state due to the worker’s report, that worker could get up to $1,000 based on the size of the savings.)

 

Olson stated the SEIU will be at Shari’s Restaurant on Capitol Boulevard (near Starbucks) with free pie for BSU employees on Friday, June 20th at 11:30 to talk about the WOC and other issues concerning BSU employees.  He also stated that July 1st our health insurance changes again, and that SEIU is working on bringing SEIU members and legislators together in a forum to discuss the issue.

 

·         Charlton thanked everyone for his or her work throughout the year.

ASSOCATION OF CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES SENATE 2002-2003

 

The Association of Classified Employees (ACE) Senate consists of 15 members who are elected to represent University classified staff on various committees, including the President’s Cabinet, to head up special projects, and to keep classified staff informed on issues that affect classified personnel. ACE Senate meets monthly in the SUB. All classified staff are welcome to attend the monthly meetings. ACE holds a General Meeting and Classified Staff Luncheon each spring. Please feel free to contact any of the ACE officers or Senators listed below to get further information, to place an item on the agenda for discussion, or to express your thoughts and opinions about issues.
