Association of Classified Employees

Meeting was called to order at 1:30 P.M.

 

Present:  Connie Charlton, Bob Webber, Nancy Rountree, Carol Carroll, Rex Hadley, Reida Bow, Ken Wiscombe, Valencia Garrett, Rita Nuxoll, Lisa Clements.

 

Jeff Olson was busy at the legislature so was not present to give a legislative update.

 

President’s Cabinet:  Connie Charlton urged everyone to read item #12 in the purchasing policy.  There has been a first reading of the proposed policy. Some changes to the language in the policy have been proposed, and Section XII is a complete rewrite.  This section deals with Entertainment, Employee Meals/Refreshments, Retirement, Awards & Gifts, Flowers & Decoration”: expenditures requiring business purpose certification.  We may have to pay sales tax on awards, gift certificates, etc.  Contact Jo Ellen Dinucci by email or call extension 2088 if you have input or questions.

 

The holiday schedule was also discussed at the President’s Cabinet.  Option 2 was approved.  This option states that employees will use comp time, or vacation time, for Friday, November 28, Wednesday, December 24, Friday, December 26, and Friday January 2.  The University will not be closing down for the week of Christmas.

 

Committee Updates: 

  • General meeting & luncheon; Valencia reported that things are progressing on schedule.  Dan Hawkins will be the guest speaker.

 

  • Nominations: Rita said the nominations were slow in coming in.  She encouraged everyone to remind those in their areas that the deadline is March 18.

 

  • Outstanding Classified Employee:  Connie reported that she had received about seven applications so far and that the selection committee is in place.

 

  • Parking: Reida a new director had been appointed, Jared Everett (name???) will begin April 1.

 

  • Executive Budget: Kenny reported that no decision has been made yet as to where money is going for higher ed.  The legislature continues to work on FY2003 and has not looked at FY2004.

 

Other: 

  • Connie informed everyone that the Distinguished Lecture Series speaker for April would be Laurie Garrett,

 

  • Connie noted that Milford Terrel is a new state board member and seems to be very open/approachable.

 

The meeting adjourned at 2:20 P.M.
