ACE MINUTES – January 9, 2003 - Ah Fong Room

Present: Connie Charlton, Guen Johnson, Bob Webber, Jeff Olson, Reida Bow, Ken Wiscombe, Gary Myers, Rex Hadley, Carol Carroll

Meeting began at 1:35.

1. SEIU UPDATE – Jeff Olson:  There are now 50 members of the Service Employees International Union at Boise State, and 300 across the state. He reasserted the need for the membership to grow…as long as public employees don’t organize, and don’t complain, the legislature will continue to take state pay raises to pay for flooding, etc. Cutting state workers is easy at this point because they do not object. Doing nothing guarantees continued cuts and continued disrespect he said. Olson believes we CAN make a change by being involved and making our voices heard at the legislature. He urged all state employees to join and also contact your legislators regarding issues important to state employees. Face to face contact has more impact, but if that isn’t possible, by all means e-mail or call. Legislative e-mail addresses can be found at http://www2.state.id.us/legislat/legislat.html.

2.   Supervisor evaluation -- Charlton reported for Nuxoll that the committee will meet to determine a strategy for taking the supervisor evaluation proposal forward.

3.  Governor’s Budget Proposal:  Charlton stated that the BSU administration is pleased with the Governor’s budget proposal. BSU administration encouraged us to support the proposal when speaking in any role that represents our constituents. As taxpayers and citizens, we can have a different voice. His budget indicated to CECs.

4.  Committee Reports – Johnson to ask all committees to get written reports to her to attach to the minutes of the February meeting. Johnson stated she had received one report from Ann Winslow, Bookstore Advisory committee.

Meeting Adjourned at 2:20.

Respectfully submitted,                                                                                                         Gueneth Omeron Johnson

NOTE:  Clarification from Jane Buser to the December 2002 ACE minutes, item #2 SEIU 687 Update:

The minutes were correct in that there is the .38%/.62% split between employee and employer.  However,  the last sentence regarding how much will be held out of an employee's pay check beginning on 7/1/04 with 1% each year is incorrect.   Actually, only the .38% of the 1% will be held out each paycheck beginning on 7/1/04 - not 1%.  The total is 1% but the employee's portion is .38% and BSU's portion is .62% for three years.  I hope this help employees understand the impact.
