Hyde, Rita Nuxoll, Reida Bow, Lisa Clements, Rhonda Hughes, Rex Hadley, Noreen
Camacho, Mike Dome, Gary Myers.
Welcome:
President Connie Charlton welcomed all the new members of the ACE Senate
and introductions were made.
Meeting time:
The regular meeting time for the 2002/2003 ACE Senate was discussed and
set for the 2nd Thursday of each month at 1:30 pm. Connie will contact the Student Union to set
up the meetings and obtain a regular meeting room.
Habitat for
Humanity, Women’s build: Reida Bow reported that RuthAnn Benjamin has
been coordinating the University’s involvement with this and has set up two
work dates. Those people who have
volunteered through ACE will be working on the second date which is Saturday,
July 20th. All volunteers
working on the house must attend an orientation meeting prior to the date they
are scheduled to work. Orientations are
held at All Saints on Cassia and Latah on the second Saturday of each month at
10:00 am and the fourth Tuesday of each month at 6:30 pm. Please contact Reida if you need more
information. Men may volunteer for the
project in an advisory or service capacity.
Kenny Wiscombe has volunteered to do a barbeque for the workers on July
20th. Reida asked if ACE
would be willing to contribute toward the cost of the hamburgers. After a brief check of the ACE funds, Rhonda
Hughes made a motion to contribute $30 toward the cost and the motion carried
unanimously.
Committee
assignments: Connie went through the various ACE
committees and asked for volunteers. Connie will notify the person in charge or
chairing the various committees so they can contact the ACE representative
about meeting times and places. The
Newsletter and Suggestion Box committees were temporarily put on hold. Rhonda asked that the Bicycle committee be
added to the list.
Budget
update: Connie reported that she has attended a
couple of meetings on the state of the budget, including one telephone
conference with the State Board of Education.
The Board has updated its policies and regulations regarding
professional staff and faculty layoffs and Connie is getting some more
information on how this may affect classified staff as well. There is concern about how higher education
may handle any additional cuts or holdbacks.
Any declaration of a financial emergency would need to be declared
statewide by the State Board of Education.
Connie will keep ACE updated on the situation.
The meeting
adjourned at 2:25 p.m. The next ACE meeting will be August 8, 2002 @ 1:30 p.m.
in the Student Union Ah Fong Room.
