Call to Order: President Rita Nuxoll called the meeting to order at 1:36 p.m.

IPEA Presentation:  Dona VanTrease, Rana Klingner, and Kay Youngerman spoke about the benefits of belonging to IPEA.  IPEA (Idaho Public Employees Association) is the largest group representing public employees in the State with over 1,000 active and 800 retiree members.  IPEA would like to know the best way to promote their organization on the BSU campus; BSU has gone from having its own chapter to currently having only 3 total members on campus.  Those interested are invited to attend a reception hosted by Blue Shield for the IPEA on Friday, September 14th from 6:00–8:00 pm at the Owyhee Plaza as well as IPEA’s 42nd annual meeting on Saturday, September 15th, also at the Owyhee Plaza.  Packets of information were distributed to each member of the Senate.  It was also suggested that IPEA look into having a table at the campus benefits fair or host an open house on campus for employees.  Those employees interested in knowing more about IPEA should contact one of the Senate members present for additional details.

Campus Recreation Membership Fees:  Joyce Grimes spoke regarding the new Recreation Center and the changes in campus recreation fees.  The Student Recreation Board of Governors, which is headed by students and contains representatives from other groups on campus, has approved a schedule of fees to be effective when the new facility opens in 2002.  Grimes stressed that the students were interested in maintaining the facility as an open opportunity for all campus constituencies and have based the fees on the principle that students, faculty, and staff pay equal amounts for using the facilities.  Grimes handed out a schedule of the approved fees as well as a list of the intended hours of operation and a comparison of fees with other fitness facilities in the area.  The ACE Senate has been invited to tour the new facility once it gets closer to opening, which is now projected to be in January 2002.

ACE Open House:  The second annual ACE open house has been set for Tuesday, October 2, 2001 from 2:00-4:00 pm in the Brian Bergquist Lounge of the Student Union.  Drs. Ruch and Jones have approved an hour of release time (with supervisor’s approval) for those employees wishing to attend.  Flyers should be coming out with more information within the next week.  All ACE Senate members are asked to come 15 minutes early in order to have a group photo taken.  It was decided to reschedule the regular ACE meeting for October for Thursday, October 11th to accommodate the open house.

Committee reports:

Rake up Boise:  Noreen Camacho and Rex Hadley reported that Rake up Boise has been scheduled for Saturday, November 10th.  ACE is coordinating with the Professional Staff Senate to distribute flyers and coordinate BSU’s involvement in this community service project.

Executive Budget:  Kenny Wiscombe reported that the Executive Budget Committee met to discuss the 2% budget reduction required by the Governor.  Details were sent out in a mass e-mail from the Provost’s office but essentially the majority of the cutback will be in department/unit budgets for operating expense, travel, and capital outlay.  There is also a limited hiring freeze which means that departments must receive permission from the Provost or appropriate Vice President before advertising, interviewing for, or filling any vacant positions.

Adjournment:  The meeting was adjourned at 3:15 pm.

The next ACE meeting will be on Thursday, October 11th at 1:30 pm in the Ah Fong.

Recorded by: Rita Nuxoll
