Present: Rita Nuxoll, Becky Blank, Connie
Charlton, Reida Bow, Rex Hadley, Shirley Turner, Kenny Wiscombe, Julie
Clarkson, Nancy Rountree and Mike Dome
PRESIDENT’S CABINET: Connie Charlton reported on the October
President’s Cabinet meeting.
Energy Saving Strategies: Einar Nortan presented several scenarios
for energy savings, summarized as:
1.
4-Day week
in summer (w/classes concentrated in certain buildings).
2.
Reduce
building operations by 45 minutes a day
3.
Close the
week of Christmas
4.
Reduce
Saturday/Sunday operations
5.
Business
hours 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. in summer, no evenings
Closing for the
week of Christmas is not an option for this year, at least. The other scenarios
will be looked at in some detail.
A committee will
meet soon to implement a four-day academic calendar for the summer sessions and
to explore the possibility of instituting a four-day workweek for classified
and professional staff. The committee will take a comprehensive look at the issues
before recommending final action. If you wish to contribute to the discussion,
please contact Rita Nuxoll.
2002-2003
proposed academic calendar was reviewed and approved for forwarding to the
State Board. Adjustments will be made if a 4-day workweek is implemented for
the summer of 2002.
Mark Wheeler
supplied information regarding student e-mail accounts and mass e-mail to
students, effective October 15, 2001. Peg Blake and Mark Wheeler are points of
contact for questions or concerns.
Gary Stivers is
the new Executive Director of the State Board of Education. In September the
State Board of Education approved a Bachelor of Arts-Environmental Studies
degree. The Board also approved the purchase of 3 lots for future building
expansion.
Student Recreation Board:
Merrylea
Hiemstra asked for ACE board members to add their input on proposed policy for
locker rentals at the new recreation center. ACE carried a consensus for those
in attendance that current locker holders should have first choice for renewal.
Locker availability will be split for students and faculty/staff with a number
in reserve for visitors.
Rake Up Boise is set for Nov. 10, 2001. Response was
tremendous with approx. 20 teams on the roster. We hope to be able to complete
40 homes.
Energy Saving Strategy: 4-Day workweek- was discussed in-depth with problems
that may be encountered by the classified staff. Rita Nuxoll has been asked to
serve on the committee, established by the President’s Cabinet, and will
communicate the concerns of classified staff.
Meeting
adjourned at 2:49 p.m. The next ACE meeting will be November 1, 2001 @1:30 p.m.
in the Ah Fong room in the Student Union
