March 7, 2002
- Shared
Leadership: Kenny Wiscombe urged
classified staff to promote the Shared Leadership program among those
employees who do not have computer access.
- Suggestion
Box: ACE approved keeping the
Suggestion Box and relocating it to the second floor of the Administration
Building adjacent to the Human Resource Services department.
- ACE
Luncheon Update: The luncheon was
discussed and a determination arrived at to charge $3 for classified, $4
for temporary classified, and $10 for non-classified staff who
attend. A list of potential
speakers was developed. The
luncheon is scheduled in the Jordan Ballroom, Monday, April 22, 2002 from
11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Release
time is approved.
- ACE
nominations/elections: Ballots
will be sent out next week.
Deadline for return to Lois Santillanes will be Thursday, April 5,
2002.
- Budget
reductions on web: Kenny announced
that the recommended budget reductions are available for review on the
Boise State web site.
- President’s
Cabinet:
- A
proposal for awarding honorary doctoral degrees was presented in draft
form. A second reading of this
proposal will be done next month.
- Basic
discussion of the winding down of the legislative session. The legislature hopes to adjourn by
March 15.
- Recommendations
from the Executive Budget Committee were reviewed and timelines
discussed. The Committee will
finalize its recommendations to Dr. Ruch by Friday, March 8 (after fee
hearings). Dr. Ruch will give
final approval by March 11.
Recommendations are contingent upon a State Board approved 12%
student fee increase.
- Emeritus
Applications: Two emeritus
applications were reviewed. Sherry
Hederer’s recommendation was approved.
The second did not meet criteria; consequently, it was tabled until
next meeting.
- Committee
reports:
- Distinguished
Lecture Series: Connie Charlton
reported that Horst Stormer, Nobel Laureate in Physics, 1998 is the
Distinguished Lecturer speaking on April 25 in the Student Union. Flyers and promotional material is
being distributed on campus and throughout the community.
- Bookstore
Advisory Board: Connie Charlton
attended the Bookstore Advisory meeting on February 21. The Board discussed financial aspects
of the Bookstore operations and developed a list of entities from which
to choose recipients for Bookstore donations. Last year, the Bookstore was able to donate $200,000 to the
Children’s Center for expansion.
- Human
Resources: Reida Bow reported
that the Human Resources Committee looked at options relating the health
benefits. Because the cost of
health benefits is increasing significantly, possible cuts in benefits,
higher co-payments, and higher deductibles are items being considered.
