ASSOCIATION OF
CLASSIFIED EMPLOYEES SENATE
Meeting Minutes for October 4, 2000
Attending: Rita Nuxoll, Noreen Camacho, Connie
Charlton, Reida Bow, Merrill Strong, Ken Wiscombe, Mike Dome, Valencia Garrett,
Ann Winslow
Absent: Julie A. Clarkson, Cathy Hampton, Nancy
Rountree, Lois Santillanes, Shirley Turner, Cindy Lock-Smith
The meeting was called to order by President Nuxoll. Minutes of the August 9th meeting were approved.
Rake Up Boise: The official Rake Up Boise day is November 18; however, due to conflicting events, the decision was made that Boise State participating groups would do Rake Up Boise on November 11th. Chair Valencia Garrett is soliciting volunteers campus-wide.
Classified Survey Update: Preliminary results of the survey were reported to the President’s Executive Committee. An analyst has been secured to do a professional analysis. The resulting report will be taken to the President’s Executive Committee, then released to classified staff.
Executive Budget Committee: We discussed our representation on the Executive Budget Committee with the President’s Executive Committee. They suggested that our representative be someone who has been through Shared Leadership and/or has a financial background, that s/he serve a term of several years, and that the term be extended through the March budget hearings for continuity. Matt Irvin has agreed to extend his term through March, at which time our representation will be reviewed.
Distribution of ACE minutes and other material: Regarding the recent mailroom memo about charges for bulk mailings on campus, we have been instructed that if we put address labels on each piece, then bundle them by department, there will be no charge.
ACE Open House: Looking for a way to let classified personnel know what ACE is and who the ACE representatives are, discussion ensued regarding an open house or some other venue to accomplish this. We do have a website and need to remind people it is out there for their use.
Committee Reports:
Bookstore: Connie Charlton reports that the new “Books
on Line” is popular with students who
are ordering text books on line. Under
new leadership, the Bookstore is operating in the black for the first time in
years.
Parking: Reida Bow – this was an open meeting, with
several students in attendance. The
students were greatly concerned and suggested some of the unused parking garage
could be used for general parking. They
requested floors three and four be reallocated to reserved student parking. A committee was formed to look at fees
restructuring.
Womens Center: Ann Winslow – The center is now under the
auspices of the Student Activities Board instead of Student Special Services
and has hired a full time director, Melissa Wintrow. A monthly newsletter is being published as the center works to
become recognized across campus as a resource for students and employees of
Boise State. This year, the advisory
board is chaired by a student, Danielle McKinney. Upcoming events were discussed and members solicited for Women’s
History Month, Mentor for a Day, and the Brown Bag committee.
Christmas Project: Rita Nuxoll requested a volunteer to
represent ACE on this committee. If anyone is interested, contact Rita by
email or call 3278.
Next meeting: November 1st, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m., Senate Forum
at the SUB.
