Meeting Minutes for
December 6, 2000
Attending: Rita Nuxoll, Mike Dome, Valencia Garrett,
Reida Bow, Ken Wiscombe, Julie Clarkson, Nancy Rountree, Absent: Lois
Santillanes, Shirley Turner, Cindy Lock-Smith, Ann Winslow, Connie Charlton,
Noreen Camacho, Merrill Strong, Cathy Hampton.
Survey Update – The original plan was to send survey results to
classified staff in September. However,
we had an opportunity to have the survey analyzed by professionals at DePaul
University, so decided to wait until that was released. Because that analysis is still in process,
we made the decision to release the preliminary information we compiled
ourselves (see attached). The professional analysis will be released
when it is available.
President’s Cabinet Meeting – Reported by Rita Nuxoll.
1.
Appropriate use of
information technology resources.
Discussion on policy was tabled till next meeting to deal with feedback
received.
2.
Gifts of art to the
university – tabled till February.
3.
Student Code of Conduct
– Call Rita Nuxoll (3278) for a copy of this 14-page document.
4.
Academic calendar for
next year was approved. Calendar has
been modified to start classes on Monday instead of Thursday.
5.
Special Course Fees were
approved.
6.
Wellness Center
committee policy---tabled until next meeting—questions as to membership.
7.
Humanitarian Bowl
community outreach: 26th –
teams to local hospitals; 28th – balloon staging in stadium parking
lot; also Hall of Fame breakfast. See

8.
President’s report –
Composition of JFAC will change greatly this year -- may not be as many
representatives from this area.
9.
Parking – Consultants
have done a study including comparative data from other universities as well as
distribution of permits, and splitting safety and parking into separate
departments.
10.
Capital fund-raising
campaign – consultants on campus.
11.
VP for Institutional
Advancement position – hope to start bringing in candidates for interviews in
January.
Committee Reports:
1.
Wellness Center – Karen McDonald provided a list of activities coming up in spring. ACE discussed the policy presented in
President’s Cabinet, which focuses primarily on students and appears to
eliminate faculty and staff representation.
ACE will draft a response to the proposal asking for representation on
the committee for faculty and staff.
2.
Parking – Julie Clarkson reported that as of the last parking meeting,
President Ruch had not made a decision on the recommendations made by the
Parking Committee, which were reported at the last meeting.
Other:
1.
Legislature: Dr. Ruch reports that the surplus looks good
for one-time funding, but not for long-term commitments like wages. Economists indicate a downturn in the
economy.
2.
The PERSI surplus was
discussed.
Next Meeting:
The January ACE meeting has been cancelled.
The next meeting will be Wednesday, Feb. 7, at 3:00 p.m. in the Senate
Forum, located on first floor of the Student Union Building. All meetings are open to anyone who
wishes to attend.
