SPECIAL
MEETING
March 23, 2000
In a special meeting held on March 23rd, the ACE Senate met
with John Franden and Bob Seibolt regarding parking and the parking
garage. The fee structure for the
parking garage has been set as pay-as-you-go.
Rates are $.50/half hour and $1.00/hour with a maximum of $10 per
day. Students who utilize Bronco Bucks
are charged half rate. No reserve or
general spaces will be available in the 650 space parking garage. The projected revenue from this fee
structure will go toward building the planned 2nd parking garage.
This summer the SUB reserved lot will be converted to
pay-as-you-go. Reserve permit holders
will be moved to the lot on the corner of Lincoln/Belmont.
The Administration parking lot is slowly being converted to
a complete pay-as-you-go lot. As
reserve permits are given up by individuals leaving the University, the permits
are not being re-issued to individuals on any reserve lot waiting lists. This summer, the lot will undergo a slight
remodel which will enable staff to exit via a separate exit gate by utilizing a
programmed employee ID card. Reserve
permit holders and visitors will still enter through the main entrance.
With the above changes, several Senators expressed concern, especially for new employees, who will find it increasingly difficult to obtain parking near their place of work. Overall there will be a reduction of reserve and general permit spaces with no plans to replace them. The feedback from Franden and Seibolt was that there should not be much of a problem as a large number of general spaces go unused every day. The Stadium, and the general lots on Grant, Denver, and Euclid always have space available. In addition, it is anticipated that more students will utilize the parking garage freeing up additional general permit spaces.
