Chainsaw Safety in the Sawmill (LOG-001)
This video: (1) details the proper ways to inspect and maintain the chainsaw; (2) stresses the importance of wearing the proper protective equipment when handling a chainsaw in the mill environment; (3) demonstrates proper body mechanics and the best ways for sawmill chainsaw operators to use their chainsaws safely and effectively. Program is followed by a short maintenance video. (20 min., English)  FISTA

Chainsaw Safety, Maintenance and Operation (LOG-002)
The purpose of the video is: (1) to demonstrate the types and uses of proper safety equipment, as well as safe starting and operating techniques; (2) to inform chainsaw users of proper chainsaw maintenance procedures; (3) to make chainsaw operators aware of potential hazards and show how they can be avoided or controlled. (19 min., English)  FISTA

Falling (LOG-003)
"If you're thinking about other things, you'd better hang up your saw..."  That's the first message in this video about safe falling procedures.  Set in the interior of British Columbia, this video uses interviews and dramatic footage to demonstrate safe practices in hand and mechanical falling.  Proper clothing, equipment maintenance, planning the fall and safe cutting techniques are all described, in summer and winter conditions.  Beginner and veteran alike will benefit from this video. (21 min., 1988, English)  WCBBC

Log Truck Driver Orientation (LOG-004)
This video discusses the equipment and parts on the log truck and trailer and how to determine whether they are in safe condition for operation.  It starts with the morning walk-around the log truck to look for safety hazards.  Unloading procedures and Trailer Loading Station procedures are also shown. (30 min., 1985, English)  ORE

Logging Operation Safety (LOG-005)
The purpose of the video is: (1) to make loggers aware of potential hazards while working; (2) to inform loggers of ways in which the hazards can be removed, avoided or controlled; (3) to help maintain efficiency and productivity while improving safety. (30 min., English)  FISTA

Logging Truck Safety (LOG‑010)
Contains valuable instruction for both new and experienced drivers on the four basic safety aspects of truck logging: maintenance, safe unloading procedures, maintaining proper speed, and proper radio use.  Ideal for safety meetings. (10 min., 1992, English)  WCBBC

Logging Safety in the
Intermountain Northwest series

(1) Logging Overview; (2) Logging Safety Meetings (LOG-006)
(1) - Logging Overview:  This section briefly highlights the different aspects of the logging process from stump to mill.  General hazardous situations for each aspect are noted and ways to safely operate are outlined.  (18 min.); (2) - Logging Safety Meetings: This section outlines the successful conducting of tailgate safety meetings and other more organized training sessions.  (15 min.) (33 min., 1992, English)  UIFD

(3) The Physics of Falling; (4) Landings (LOG-007)
(3) - The Physics of Falling:   This section deals with safety in the production aspects of falling.  It deals with looking over the strip to survey conditions, using appropriate techniques safely to fall trees, planning the escape route and coordinating with the skidding crew.  (13 min.); (4) - Landings:  This section describes hazards associated with various types of landings - hot operations, cold decking, line skidding and mechanized.  Worker safety zones are emphasized and knowing where fellow workers are at all times is stressed. (18 min.) (31 min., 1991, English)  UIFD

(5) Ground Skidding; (6) Line Skidding (LOG-008)
(5) - Ground Skidding:  This section deals with different aspects of ground skidding, mainly crawler tractor and wheeled skidders.  Knowing where fellow workers are and communication are stressed.  Safe operation of machines is also outlined. (11 min.); (6) - Line Skidding:  This section deals with safe operation in hooking, chasing, and rigging.  (17 min.) (28 min., 1992, English)  UIFD

(7) Loading and Hauling; (8) Mechanized Logging (LOG-009)
(7) - Loading and Hauling:  This section includes information on the interface with landing operations, the coordination necessary between truck driver and loader operator and legal requirements of the trucking phase.  Safety zones and remaining in that safety zone is stressed. Problems associated with branding are noted.  (17 min.); (8) - Mechanized Logging:  This section discusses how these operations tend to be safer but when an accident does occur, it is usually more severe. It includes feller-bunchers, delimbers, processors and cut-to-length forwarders.  (12 min.) (29 min., 1992, English)  UIFD
